A total transformation
In the fall of 2017, Dalton Cloutier Inc. (DCI) needed a new location for their office. They purchased an original 1930s mixed residential-commercial property and wanted to move in within one year. The entire space underwent a total transformation with a compressed construction schedule.
Client: Dalton Cloutier Inc. (DCI)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Size: 223m² (2400ft²)
Value: $1,250,000
The building DCI purchased was originally a hair salon. A design was created for a complete renovation that would transform the hair salon into an open-concept office with as much natural light as possible. Upstairs, the residential space was in need of a total renovation as well.
Creating a comfortable living space
The residential space was completely renovated to create a spacious dwelling perfect for living and entertaining. The focus was on bringing in as much natural light as possible, and maintaining heritage features including a stunning exposed brick wall.
Navigating bureaucracy
Renovating an old building has many challenges when it comes to zoning bylaws. Contignum liaised with the City of Toronto planning department to ensure the proposed design would meet all the zoning requirements.
A beautiful, functional office
The Contignum design team worked closely with the management team at DCI to create the meeting spaces that would be required to run their business. A formal board room was artfully designed so it could also serve as a comfortable lunch room. The informal meeting table was placed next to the newly installed patio doors which allowed for a lot of natural light.
